Introducing Lace Designer Mia Rinde, a Giveaway & Malabrigo Sale

Big "Thank you!" to everyone who entered the Mia Rinde Giveaway!

Drum roll please!  Our 3 winners are...

Seedstitch won Mimicry Mimosa PDF pattern and 1 skein of Malabrigo Lace

Jennifer Conway of the celebratinglightnessofbeing.blogspot.com blog won Pasque Flower PDF pattern

and Handstitch of the handstitch.wordpress.com blog won Bring Me Flowers PDF pattern

Please email me at Sandrasingh@sandrasingh.com to claim your prize.

I'm excited to announce that the extraordinarily talented lace designer, Mia Rinde, has joined Sandrasingh.com! One of the things l love most about running this website is discovering beautiful, interesting patterns to introduce to you and the moment I saw Rinde's Mimicry Mimosa shawl I knew I found a winner! The pattern combines just enough lace with stockinette, a lovely drape with scalloped edges (I love scalloped edges on shawls & scarves) and its knit in the soft and lovely Malabrigo Lace, plus she included two versions, one with nupps and one without (I love patterns with options). I took a look at the rest of Rinde's work and was equally impressed and I'm sure you'll be too!

Mia Rinde
Meet Mia Rinde: Rinde knits and designs from her home in Stockholm, Sweden. Her inspirations come from traditional knitting around the world but also curiosity, on the verge of an obsession, of finding out how something will look. Her patterns are often charted and include schematics making them easy to follow. Mia’s practical side encourages flexibility for knitters, who can often vary the size and appearance of their projects through optional chart repetitions.

Rinde's patterns are usually charted and often include sizing options.  She loves Malabrigo yarn especially Sock, Lace and Silky Merino and many of her patterns are written for these yarns.  To welcome Rinde and to celebrate our mutual love for this special yarn all Malabrigo Yarn is 15% Off until Sept. 27th and this post will feature a Giveaway for Rinde's work.

There will be 3 Winners and the prizes are the Mimicry Mimosa PDF pattern and 1 skein of Malabrigo Lace, the Pasque Flower PDF pattern and the Bring Me Flowers PDF pattern.

Pasque Flower
Pasque Flower features a traditional Estonian lace motif used as an intricate border and ending with romantic ruffles, its knit in Malabrigo Lace.

Leaf by Leaf
Leaf by Leaf is a triangular shawl knit from the neck down, its also knit in Malabrigo Lace. The pattern consists of different sized leaves inspired by traditional Estonian knitting and lace doilies.

Bring Me Flowers
Bound in a bouquet or climbing up a trellis, how do you like your flowers best?  In Bring Me Flowers the two are combined in a perfect blend of geometrical shapes and floral softness, knit in Malabirgo Sock.

Catching Butterflies
Rinde shares the story of her Catching Butterflies shawl..."I like to collect pretty things, but catching actual butterflies isn’t going about it my way.  I prefer to capture their shape and beauty using a Japanese butterfly lace, accentuated with a purled background and arranged to adorn a shawl."  Knit in Malabrigo Silky Merino.

Orchid Shawl
Triangular Orchid Shawl features patterning on the right side rows only, wrong side rows are purled, the pattern is charted and beads are optional.

Lavandula
Lavandula is also a traditional triangular lace shawl with patterning on the right side rows only, wrong side rows are purled.

Growing Flowers
Square shaped Growing Flowers is knit from the center out.  It’s the flowers that make it grow and it includes a border with even more flowers. The pattern includes both written and charted instructions for a shawl and blanket version.

Growing Flowers
Mimicry Mimosa
And triangular Mimicry Mimosa is knit with increases in the middle and along the edge leaf motifs in Malabirgo Lace

The 3 winners will be announced on Sept 28th. The patterns will be emailed to the winners as a PDFs.

Thank you for the give-a-way. I'm one of your friends on facebook, the knitters, crocheters and knitting with South Wool Company.

I love knitting shawls. Mimicry Mimosa and Orchid strike my fancy.

I'm looking for a large class bottle (5 gal size) to store my shawls in. Something pretty to look at and easy access to my shawls. We spend so much time making them might as well display them.

I'm doing the Myrtle KAL now, so its my current favorite. Building a Reef looks to be next!Follow your blog and on Twitter.

nhoran said...

I am a big fan of lacy rectangular shawls, so Bring Me Flowers caught my eye immediately.

Unknown said...

Building a Reef was the first of Mia's designs I saw, and I purchased it straight away! I think she's wonderfully talented - my other favourites would be Catching Butterflies, Mimicry Mimosa and Bring Me Flowers (it's too difficult to narrow it down to one!).

The reason I love these designs is because (i) they're intricately detailed, but in a novel way that sets them apart from other shawls, and (ii) Mia always picks the perfect colour to show each of her designs at their best!
