Are you a fan of author Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games series? Have you
read all the books and seen both movies? And are you looking forward to buying
the just released Catching Fire DVD? Than this is the perfect
Blog Giveaway for you!
Huntress Cowl |
In the opening scene of the 2nd movie Catching Fire we are
reintroduced to the main character Katniss Everdeen. The setting is early
morning in the forbidden forest she and Gale hunt in to ensure the survival
of their families, we watch as she sits and reflects upon her life.
This is where our talented new knitwear designer Karla Repperger enters the
scene. She too is a fan of the series and it was this exact scene and our
beloved Katniss that inspired her to create the Huntress Cowl.
Repperger and I have teamed up, we're not fighting the evil forces and President Snow from the Capitol, but we're bringing you this awesome giveaway! The Huntress Cowl and two skeins of Cascade Magnum in Midnight Heather to knit it in.
Meet Karla Repperger: Repperger is a crafting enthusiast from St. Louis, Missouri, where she lives with her husband and their four "fur-children". She works as a Systems Analyst for Edward Jones Investments, but dabbles in a variety of hobbies while at home. Her main focus is making lampworked glass beads, however, she also enjoys sewing, knitting, graphic design, homemade lotion bars and baking.
Some other interesting facts about Karla include: she's 1/2 Venezuelan, a self-proclaimed nerd who loves science fiction and anything Star Trek, has a soft spot for animals, possesses a degree in Atmospheric Sciences, enjoys developing web applications, loves ice cream and the color yellow.
The Huntress Cowl is knit flat, in pieces, and seamed using
large “coils” to create the shape around the neck. The bulk of the piece is knit
using the Herringbone stitch on varying sized needles to create the variegated
stitches like in the original cowl. The “coils” are constructed using a simple
crochet stitch around a core of your choice.
It is sized to "fit most” as it’s not fitted and stretches
easily. The modeled is sized for an 8 with a 34” bust which usually works
out to be a medium. If you wish to size up, you can easily add stitches in
multiples of two for width, and knit additional rows for length.

Something a bit different.
Now that is a cool pattern! I'd love to see how it is put together and it looks actually handy. I'd make it for myself but might give it to my bibliophile niece...or make a second.

I just watched this movie tonight and instantly feel in love with the cowl. As soon as the movie was over I started to search for info on the cowl and that's how I found this contest. If I could I would make this cowl for myself and my sister.

love the hunger games and the cowl looks like something that would keep you warm in the spring but not be too hot
I think this is a very unique cowl and works well with the movie. I think this would be perfect for a teenage girl.
I've already knit one version of a Katniss cowl for a niece; I'd knit this one for her sister or one of her friends who likes THG as much as she does.

I admire this design for its texture and asymmetry. Since I'm not a knitter, I'd interpret it in crochet. Would I give it away? Hmmm...
I receive your newsletters.
Well, I already follow your blog, on your email list, like your FB page and am a member of your Ravelry group. So I can comment and pin. I've never read the hunger game books, but they are on my list. This would make for an interesting knitting challange. I'm just trying to figure out the construction. It's kind of cool actually.

I would knit that for my sis, who's not only a fan of the books, but a teacher and would suit that, so I'm pretty sure her 'street cred' would go up with her kids too.
Just watched Catching Fire last nite. Love the cowl and the coils. I would knit this for myself.
My daughter is a crazy Katness fan. I would knit this for her. She is 13 so that would help my coolness factor go up considerably!

What I love the most about this cowl design is that it looks like it would feel like armor when you’re wearing it. I’d made it for myself, I seldom do selfish knitting but this would be the one for sure.
