the Eliza Shawl by Robyn Gallimore

January is all about "Knit for Me" time!  Create something beautiful for yourself and learn a new skill or two while you're doing, plus have this amazing shawl to wear and enjoy for many, many years.

Robyn Gallimore of Red Bird Knits' created the beautiful Eliza Shawl in Kauni Effektgarn 8/2.  A colorful triangular shawl knit from the center back of the neck to make use of the long color changes of Effektgarn

The motif is based on an old Anatolian pattern and Robyn thinks Eliza Doolittle might have liked to wear this on those cool London mornings.  Knit in the round using a steek, which is then cut and wrapped in a stocking stitch binding to neaten up the edges.

Finished Size: 71" x 31.5"
Yarn: 1000-1200 yards Kauni Effektgarn 8/2 (100% wool, yardage varies per ball)
Needles: US 6 (4mm)
Gauge: 6 sts = 1" in two color motif in stockinette stitch

Kauni Effektgarn 8/2 is an amazing self striping yarn painted in long, vibrant color repeats which give your finished garments and accessories beautiful, long stripes of color.  Crafted of 100% wool this sport weight yarn can be knit and felted with equally stunning results.  Let your imagination flow with projects for shawls, cardigans and pullovers, handbags and more.

Showcase a graduated stripe yarn such as Kauni Effektgarn (you only need 1 skein) or have fun playing with alternated solid colors for a wavy striped effect in a worsted such as my 1 Ply Merino Worsted.

WIP KAL or CAL: the Winter Edition

After reading through our collective Knitting Resolutions for 2015 a noticed a theme, “Finish my _____!” So lets join together these remaining cold, snowy winter months and cheer each other on to complete our WIP in the WIP KAL or CAL: the Winter Edition.

Its easy to join, become a member of my Ravelry group Sandrasingh.com, have at least 1 WIP that you started any time before 1/8/15 and post about it and your progress the KAL.

Start by telling us about your WIP(s), what pattern, the yarn you’re using, what size needles, where you're at in the pattern.  If you can post a pic, great, if you can’t don’t worry, I don’t want this KAL to add any unnecessary stress.

Are you short on yarn? This may turn into a great resource to help you find it. Stuck on a certain direction? Tell us, maybe we can help. Lost your place? Maybe we can help you figure it out. Just need encouragement to pick up that long lingering WIP? This KAL is the right place!

The KAL/CAL will start today, right now, and will end on Friday, March 20 which is officially the 1st Day of Spring! Photos of finished WIP by this date are what we’re going for, especially cute ones of you modeling it!

Knitting Trend for 2015: SOCKS

Celebrate 2015 with a hand knit pair of socks.

Introducing Lara Neel's Sock Architecture

According to Dutch trend forecaster Lidewij Edelkoort knitting will remain popular and Socks will be the rage..."Socks will be seen on everything – head, hands, feet and body!"  Interesting, as knitters we already know the joys of sock knitting and don't need a trend forecaster to explain, though it is nice to see knitting in the mainstream media.  If you love sock knitting, rock on, just don't try to wear them on your hands!

Sivia Harding's Journey Cable Socks includes sizes for children to women.

Andi Smith's Big Foot Knits includes 12 plus sizes sock patterns!

And Harding's Toe Ups for All includes 7 sizes.

Follow the links after purchase to download each pattern.
