I also put Mr. Greenjeans aside for this trip since it was getting to big and bulky for travel and I started this Lace Ribbon Scarf, the pattern is free on Knitty. After many false starts and very emotional froggings I cracked the code of the lace chart and have knit over 20". I'm knitting it in Serendipitous Ewe's Fate Fingering in my exclusive color, Twilight Sky and I'm loving the way its turning out!
We had a wonderful Xmas day, went to see Up in the Air with George Clooney and than over to China Town for dinner. China Town was hopping! We found a crowded restaurant and figured it had to be good since so many people were there and had a delicious meal. We strolled the streets with other out-of-towners doing NY for Xmas and than headed home.
Yesterday we went to Soho to hit some furniture stores. We found a really great store with vintage furniture, clothing and home decor that was selling metal sock molds from the 1960s that were used in factories to create knit socks. No pictures yet, as soon as I get them hung in my office I'll photograph them.
And I have one more story to tell from the Sunday before last, we were shopping at ABC over on Broadway. We did our usual take the elevator up to the top floor than walk down floor by floor. I kept on seeing this woman I thought looked an awful lot like Uma Thurman. At one point I was walking right next to her and I said to her, “You look just like Uma Thurman,” to which she replied, “I used to.”
When we got downstairs she was a head of us and this mother daughter pair stopped, turned around as she went past and said, “That was Uma Thurman!” I had to ask them if it really was and they were 100% sure it was. DH was with me, with his camera and he refused to take a pic of her even though she wouldn’t have seen him do it!
Can you believe I told Uma Thurman she looked like Uma Thurman?!

Kathy's use of entrelac with a single colorway enables that colorway to move in new and surprising ways. This pattern really allows these yarns to sing their liltingly lovely song in a fresh way. You will greatly enjoy the splendid unpredictability of this Random yarn as you knit along. And once done, you will love wrapping yourself in it.

This is our view for our window, we're not very high up but it certainly is pretty at night.
And DH decided to get a little artistic!
It snowed 10" here last weekend and I've reconfirmed my beliefs about winter. Eskimos have many words for snow, Tunics not as many. Myself, two, pretty snow like in this picture above....and dangerous snow which I didn't want to photograph, but have to walk through everyday! Luckily I don't drive here and for this I'm very thankful.
I was very impressed with the train show, it was thoughtfully planned with these miniature replicas of famous buildings throughout NYC and the five boroughs and the way they landscaped to scale was wonderful. Reminded me of when I used to play with my doll house outside and would trim the grass to be the front lawn, only 10Xs more elaborate! The show easily appeals to men and women across generations with the miniatures, flora and fauna and of course the trains.

The trains are why we went, DH was deprived a train set when he was young though promised one if he received good grades...I'll save that story for another post.

No Santa, but one of Santa's little helpers was on hand!
On Wednesday our cousins came into the city from Washington DC and we all went to see the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. None of us had seen the show before and we were all really impressed. I lost count of their costume changes and the choreography was flawless.
Today its a movie and dinner in China Town.
A week or so ago I realized I never finished blogging about Rhinebeck, I made it up to highlighting what DH enjoyed the most and forgot to talk about the the second most important event, the Ravelry After Party! I was one of the sponsors this year and donated a Tangled Vine Socks Kit for the raffle.
These two knitters knew each other only on Ravelry and planned to meet for the first time at the Fest. Turned out neither one was an axe murderer!

Here I am leaving the stage after I was announced as one of the sponsors. DH didn't get a shot of me on the stage. If anyone has a shot of me up there please email it to me.
Knitwear abounds as it was a bit nippy that night, but despite the cold I was impressed with the large crowd that turned out.
And this is Ysolda in a Bob costume, she's next to the prize table and you can just make out my TVS Kit behind her.
And I would love to hear from the knitter who won my Kit as a prize, did you get a chance to knit the socks yet?
Its snowing Texas sized snow flakes at Saks!
Anyway...Toffee had a fantastic time and had her very first picture taken with Santa.
And we managed to get a shot of the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree sans Toffee. On one of our visits here a few years ago we made it in time to see this tree be lit up. It was right after 9/11 and the place was swarming with cops. DH put the camera on timer and sat it on a ledge so we could have a romantic shot in front of the tree, you should have seen how fast a policeman reacted the moment he witnessed us walking away from the camera.
We hope to get over to see the Rockettes during this trip, neither one of us have seen them. My mom just told me how when she was a little girl and used to take trips into NYC she remembered going out to see a movie and the Rockettes performed right after the film ended.

Does Toffee look a little scared in this shot? Perhaps because we're standing in the middle of the street with a whole line of cars heading toward us!
And we may have left Texas but we can't seem to get away from those pesky deer! Charting Dreams was founded by Jen and Sam to specifically address the needs of entrepreneurs starting businesses during these tough economic times. Individually they're very business savvy and together they're a powerful wealth of information and resources, they've given me ideas to improve my website and have even implemented some of them for me.
Jen who is practical, but with an eye toward possibility, brings her business and marketing expertise to her clients through her writing and creative marketing background. Jen helps small business owners, such as myself, organize their thoughts and find customers. Jen has written press releases for my website which have brought new customers to my door.
Jen and I have been neighbors for a few years and have enjoyed doing what neighbor's do best, helping each other out, spending time with each other's families, or more specifically eating, drinking and shooting off fireworks! Now I'm very happy to add something new to this list, the opportunity to have worked with her, and Sam, professionally.
